Running your own business from home is stressful for anyone; however, throw in a husband, a 5 year old son and a dog the size of a small donkey, and things start to get interesting!
I think the key to Occasional Heavens success so far is the fact that I’m organised… often dealing with upwards of 5 clients at one time, ordering materials, printing, hand finishing and packaging become a juggling act. I write lists of jobs to do, and prioritise them, often with the least favourite job first so I know it is done! The average day will also include: deliveries, emails and phone calls, topped off with social media…and maybe some lunch if I’m lucky. School runs, dog walks,
house work and sleeping have to fit around everything else!
My husband has become accustomed to late night tea, and understands that “im just going to get this bit finished” means I’ll probably be working for another three hours or so…
We have formed our own sign language - little grunts with hand motions
towards what I need him to help me with next!
It is a challenge running a business from home, and getting the balance of work and family time right is essential. Our 5 year old son is becoming an intelligent, caring and thoughtful individual.
Working as a team is a valuable part of business. Without the support of my husband and understanding 5 year old, Occasional Heaven wouldn’t be the successful business it is today.
As my dad used to say -
“You only get out of it what you put in”
